# About Rapid Rambler

Rapid Rambler is a small set of free cycling calculators for commuters, weekend riders, people bringing an old bike back to life and new e-bike owners.

## What it does

Each page answers one question riders ask: what a gear change will feel like, what pressure to pump, how high the saddle should go, how many links the chain needs, when the law wants lights on, and how an e-bike is classed. Metric and imperial sit side by side throughout.

## How the numbers are made

Every calculation runs in your browser, in plain JavaScript; nothing you type is sent anywhere. Each page names its method and sources: Sheldon Brown for gear maths, Frank Berto’s chart as published in Bicycle Quarterly and Michelin’s table for tire pressure, the published research for saddle height, Park Tool for chains, and the official legal texts for lights and e-bikes, each checked on 5 November 2026. Where we couldn’t verify something, we left it out rather than guess.

## What it isn’t

The results are starting points. They aren’t legal advice, medical advice or a professional bike fit, and a tire or rim’s printed maximum pressure always wins over any calculator. Laws change, so follow the source links before relying on a rule.

## Analytics and privacy

The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies or cross-site tracking and never receives what you type into the tools. The [privacy page](https://rapidrambler.me/privacy/) has the details.

Questions about running or walking? See our sister sites in the footer, such as [Run Pebble](https://runpebble.me/) for running pace.
